In an era of Gen-Z

More often than I would care to admit, I have found myself in discussions regarding how difficult people like me (who truly believe they are old), find it difficult to work with and understand the latest working youth-model in town, calling themselves ‘Gen-Z’.

These unique creations of God, never seem to fail to amaze me with their energy, liveliness and thought-process. Most times I am left speechless and a few many times, angry. But, everytime – amazed.

Yes, they do not abide by rules – even the ones set by them. Yes, they value themselves above and over everything and everyone. Yes, they work to get motivated and are not motivated to work. Yes, you need to be walking on literal egg-shells around them. And the list is endless – so endless, that sometimes its difficult to even remember it. And trust me, I survive on lists!

However, they amaze me at every instant. They make me want to think. In order to tell them something, I need to be able to answer their questions. It enabled me to get a new and fresh perspective. And just like that – with zero intention and a lot of resistance, my everyday transformed into a day to learn and experience new things. And you need to trust me when I say it is a rollercoaster ride. I might puke, scream and close my eyes out of fear but at the end of the journey, I am always left wanting more.

Today something more happened that has compelled me to get these words out. I see all these children (I am a Millennial and somehow into the habit of calling anyone younger than me as children), be compassionate about so many things. They are so much into their social media, mental health, physical well being, work life balance, and so many more things. Sometimes when we choose to see these things just materializing for them, we might have a biased view of them. However, today – when I was stuck in some deadlines and could not (and didnt want to) spend time on getting myself a meal – I have all these children coming for my rescue. They are getting me Ice Creams, sandwiches, cold drinks and forcing me to eat with their adorable persistence.

And I saw them as passionate about me eating these things as they were eating the ones in their hands – as they were delivering on the things that they were doing – as they are about anything else in their lives.

It was one of those moments when I fell out of words and I still want to share it out to the world – Thank You Palak and Angelina for the Ice Cream. Thank You Pooja and Satuti for the sandwich and Cold Drink. Thank You Nishant and Jeevan for being the Amitabh Bachchans of the project. I have never had anything more delicious and never been more motivated to be a better person to work with. I learn so much from you – every day. And I do not have the words to define it. So just put in your own words!

Thank You, for just being yourselves. And I am so blessed to be surrounded by such amazing people.
