Gol gappe for men

Gone are the days when someone (some male) can surely say that women love Gol Gappas. Well ofcourse we do!! But eventually men have also discovered the flavour and goodness.

To give a little background – gol gappas are quite popular dish in India. They are found in all states, Union Terretories and Islands (atleast on all I have been to) of India. They are called by a variety of names – Pani Puri, Gol Gappe, Pani ke Batashe, Gup Chup, Puchka, amongst the popular few – depending on the geographical location. The preparation varies slightly as well depending on the preferred taste of the region.

Basically, you need to take wheat flour or White flour and fry small flat round or oval breads from same. The dough needs to be fermented so we can get crispy balls from them. Then we fill it with boiled potatoes, gram, White gram or a combination of the above. The filling can be a little gravy based if desired. Next we need the chutney – basically the sweet or the spicy goodness that needs to be added. Finally we have specially prepared drink which is either salty, minty, sour, spicy, tamarind flavoured or sweet. Nowadays we have alot more flavours as well. This drink is filled into the small fried balls that we prepared earlier. Finally we eat this goodness!

In India gol gappas can be found in every nook and corner of roads. And you shall also find women surrounding the stall. The love for gol gappa in women is so huge that it is often the subject of humour against women.

However the point of the post – times are changing.

I have already mentioned before that there is nothing such as a diet if there are gol gappas. So right now I am at a wedding. Everyone who says they are too full and cannot have another one morsel of food, will always find space for another gol gappa. See since there are so many combinations that can be tasted, it becomes extremely essential to try all the combinations. After you have done that, you find one that is most to your taste… so you need to have a couple of more of that.

This is at a wedding. But if you are given these gol gappas like I get at my office, people need to eat aa much as they could.

Further if you are outside at a restaurant or at a stall, then you cant stop without getting the gol gappas customised as per your taste and then have them.

Simple, wasn’t this? Don’t know why men wouldn’t understand such simple facts? If only they would then they would love them and not make fun.

But then times changed! There were some men who started trying gol gappas. Ofcourse they wouldn’t accept it out loud or to any one else. The journey started with having one last piece of the plate when the females of their family would have them. A very little minority dared take the whole plate. These were the people who had a couple and realised that they liked it but the world was watching. Obviously the former fact couldn’t be made obvious! Hence they would eat a little more than half a plate and then offer the rest to the female they accompanied. Slowly this minority grew.

As a result, today at weddings we have that one man who is struggling to make way for himself to the counter to get a gol gappa. There are these two men who are keeping a tab from a distance to find when there is no woman near the stall and it is safest for them to relish these heavenly foods without getting noticed. There will also be this man who lets the female of the family have it, give review and then quietly go without her noticing and then fulfil his heart’s desire.

In office there are quite a few who will have more than many girls. Others will keep having a few and then say that they can do with a few more.

Outside in the market or at stalls, men will have it! They have the right (though not explicitly said so by the HH Supreme Court).

The times are truly changed and become quite liberal, providing the best of both worlds to the members of both the worlds.
