Make a Wish List
Look at the world around you. The more I try to understand it, the more things go down to the list of the things that I do not know. For this reason only, it is very important to go and experience as many things as possible. And from there we come to the topic of maintaining a Wish List.
A Wish List (or you may call it with whatever name you like), is just a list of activities you want to do. It can be a list of things you want to own or places you want to visit. It can be as simple as a list of all the flavours of ice-cream you want to try. When you break your list to such specific wishes, you may also maintain two lists. Like a), a list of all the flavours of ice-cream you want to try and b), a list of all the books you want to read.
These lists can be related or unrelated, ordered or unordered but they should be timed.
Before to the concept of timed, I want to share the list that I maintain.
Foremost I believe that we should all try everything once in our lives. If we enjoy it and its legal, then we can also try it more frequently. I do not maintain a list of things I havent tried for that would be huge but if there is something new that I think I want to try, I do try it. Examples are hosting this blog, writing stories, writing these #YouAreNotAlone section articles, making videos, handwriting analysis, Tarot Card Reading, Painting, Reading, Singing, Dancing, Playing musical instrument, studying new technical topics or simply trying things that make me scared at first.
But then I am very deeply involved into stories – reading and writing them. There are several ideas that form inside my head. So I maintain a small notebook and whenever I get any idea, I open a fresh page and pen down as much as I can think about it. Then I leave a few pages blank and then note down the next idea, as and when it comes.
When Sushant Singh Rajput committed suicide, his ’50 things to do’ list got printed all over media. Some of them were common in what I want to do – learn morse code, develop something in Artificial Intelligence… Some he had completed and I added to my list – own a telescope (maybe not as expensive).
The point I want to say here is that his list was pretty simple. He could have taken out a month of his life each year and accomplished all of them in just a couple of years. But now that he wasnt around to accomplish even one of them, the list just seemed to be in vain or rather like a ’50 things you couldnt do’ list. And this thought is not a good one.
I know there are so many ideas in my little notebook that I havent started writing. There are others that I have started writing but not ended. But whenever I open my notebook, I dont feel sad. I feel happy for they are my ideas. Everytime I open it, there are finer details about some ideas that I had forgotten. There are additional details that come to me and make the idea richer.
And now I have also decided to make my ideas time-bound. To simply put it that I am going to assign a tentative time that it would take me to write the entire story – the first draft and then come up with additional timeline to try and get it published.
This is definitely a lengthier process if I start adding time to everything I want to try but then the things I am not able to try (example: playing football since I am not a sports person), I am not sad about them. I find my ways to enjoy them (I had read the commentary of an entire football match online.. Since reading is something I like and it was the first football match for me, I intended to understand as much as possible… So I read it instead of watching it). But my stories are a little different. I want them to be put out into the world.
That was about me but coming back to the original topic – it is important to list down our dreams and aspirations.
A simple step would be to write them on a sticky note and paste it somewhere you can see it often. This is required because then you consciously and sub-consciously start working towards it. We start making plans that would eventually lead to the fulfilment of the goal and we start enhancing ourselves to be the better versions that go better with those plans (like recently it got into my head to try the free fall jumping off a bridge or a chopper… Currently just thinking about it rising my heart rate).
And remember, you are making a list to increase your experiences and not defining who you currently are. You are perfect and a wonderful person as you are and this is all because of the things that have already happened and done. The new things that you want to do or will do will make you even better, happier or more experienced that you currently are. So if something doesnt come true, well you tried (what matters!) and whatever does come true – only those define how wonderful and successful you have been.
